The AHA provides on-site rescue and relief for animal victims of disaster. AHA maintains an Emergency Animal Relief Fund to provide desperately needed funds to local animal welfare agencies attempting to meet animals' needs when disaster strikes.

The Orange County Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT CA-1) is one of over 60 teams of the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) and is located in Orange County, California.

DMAT stands for Disaster Medical Assistance Teams. These are specialized volunteer medical teams which have been around since 1985, under NDMS (National Disaster Medical Systems), which is a cooperative effort of FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) and others. We provide emergency medical support in the event of medical disasters which may overwhelm existing local medical resources. In addition to a medical disaster response role within San Bernardino County, DMAT CA-2, is available to provide medical mutual aid to other counties, to other locations in California, and elsewhere in the United States and its territories.
