<description><![CDATA[My brother (an LE officer) and I are &#34;Emergency!&#34;-generation guys and ever since we were kids, we've been intrigued about the use of the European &#34;Martin Horns&#34; on LACoFD squads and LAFD batallion chief rigs for so many years, and are at a loss why they haven't found more broad usage in the US.

<description><![CDATA[Carrie was a wonderful lady.  I met her several years ago when I first started working an arson dog.  She was always willing to train with me and help me in any way she could.  I'm a better handler because of her help.  Her dogs were all top notch and you could tell she loved them and they loved her.  When I lost my first dog, Carrie didn't hesitate to come down to San Diego to help me through the tough time and she gave me some wonderful gifts at Kona's service.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) -- A fire marshal says two South Carolina residents didn't call for help in a house fire because they were afraid they would have to pay for the firefighters.

The Herald-Journal of Spartanburg reported two people used a garden hose to fight a fire at their Spartanburg County home and inhaled some smoke in the effort. They refused medical treatment.

It would be great if we had better training for certain ranks, but the fact is our Fire Chief doesn't seem to value formal training in certain areas for some reason.  Even in the Bureau the training is really lacking... Oh yeah, what training?  OJT and survival is all you get there.  Maybe after he saves us all, he will retire.
